Dear Friends and Patrons of Cross Island
Farms,
This beautiful spring-like weather has inspired me
to OPEN OUR SELF-SERVE 24/7 FARMSTAND starting today! Right now we
have the following Island-Grown, Certified Organic items for sale at the
Stand, or for local delivery (call 482-FOOD).
Pastel-Colored Free-Range
Eggs* Garlic*
Onions*
Potatoes*
Wintered-Over
Leeks* Sugary-Sweet Just-Dug
Parsnips*
These items are perfect for a Fritatta:
Sautee leeks, garlic and/or onions, add sliced or diced boiled potatoes and
continue sauteeing for a few minutes, pour in scrambled eggs to cover (add some
grated cheese, salt and pepper if you like) and cook in oven or over stove
in heavy skillet until just set. Delicious for breakfast, lunch or
dinner.
You can pare, slice, and steam the parsnips to
serve on the side. If you haven't tasted our parsnips, you don't know what
you're missing. Be sure to keep the water left after
steaming: it is as sweet to drink as ambrosia.
*If it is more convenient for you, these items are
also available at Doxtater's Market, Route 37 in Pamelia.
For those of you who have been following the saga
of the baby goats, White Face and Hic-cup, I am happy to report that they have
been adopted together as pets by a woman from St. Lawrence county. They
will reside in a barn that looks like a high-end garage, and will be very well
cared for, we are sure.
Meanwhile, the goat pen with its remaining
contents (a four foot deep pack of accumulated hay, poop, and pee)
has been removed from my living room floor. After several scrubbings
and a sprinkling of baking soda, the lingering odor is barely
detectable.
Hope to see you at the farm soon.
Peace,
